Kakap kuning Hindia adalah sejenis ikan kakap yang pertama disebutkan oleh Marcus Elieser Bloch pada tahun 1790.[3][4] Ikan jantan dewasanya bisa mencapai total panjang 30 cm.[5][6][7] Mangsa dari ikan ini adalah ikan kecil dan udang-udangan.[8] Ikan ini hidup di daerah terumbu karang beriklim tropis di kedalaman antara 10–30 meter (33–98 ft).[5][9] Ikan ini bisa ditemukan mulai dari Laut Merah sampai Kepulauan Maluku.[10][11] Di beberapa daerah Indonesia ikan ini juga dikenal dengan nama Gorara tikus atau Kakap benggala. Di Malaysia dikenal dengan nama Kunyit benggala atau Tanda. Sementara di Filipina dikenal dengan nama Aluman, Bislao, Katambak, Labungan, Mangagat, atau Maya-maya. Sedangkan di Australia, ikan ini dikenal dengan nama Bengal snapper karena banyak ditemukan di sepanjang pesisir Teluk Benggala.
